- 1 lb. okra
- 1 c. cornmeal
- 1/2 c. shortening
- salt and pepper to taste
Directions

1Rinse okra.

2Remove caps, cut pods into 1/2-inch slices.

3Toss with cornmeal.

4Heat shortening in heavy skillet or electric skillet.

5Fry single layer of okra about 8 or 10 minutes until golden brown on all sides.

6Do not overcook, or okra will be too soft.

7Turn carefully.

8Remove and drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.

9Serve immediately.
