- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 2 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
- 2 Tbsp. solid shortening (Crisco)
- 1 egg yolk
- 4 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 c. cold milk
- fruit filling of your choice (apple, peach or cherry)
Directions

1Sift salt and baking powder with sifted and measured flour. Blend in shortening.

2Combine egg yolk, sugar and milk; stir into flour mixture.

3Roll out on a floured board to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into circles 4 or 5 inches in diameter.

4Spread a small amount of fruit filling on half of each round.

5Fold the other half of crust over filling.

6Seal edges with fork dipped in flour. Fry in deep fat at 360° until browned.

7Drain on absorbent paper; sprinkle with powdered sugar.
