Ingredients

  • 1 lb. butter
  • 1 doz. eggs
  • 3 1/2 c. sugar
  • 5 c. flour
  • 1 heaping tsp. baking powder
  • 1 oz. cinnamon
  • 1/2 oz. cloves
  • 1/2 oz. mace
  • 1/2 oz. nutmeg
  • 1/2 oz. lemon extract
  • 1 lb. each raisins, figs, dates, citron, pecans, almonds and walnuts
  • 1 pt. brandy or sweet pickle juice is a good substitute

Directions

    Cream the sugar and butter, then add eggs, one at a time, breaking the whole egg into the batter and beating hard.

    Add alternately 3 cups flour, then take the remaining 2 cups flour and add spices to it and sift 2 or 3 times.

    Dredge fruit with this, adding that last to your cake. This makes 2 large cakes.
