Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 3/4 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 3 c. fruit (chopped apples, sliced peaches or blueberries)
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 3/4 c. boiling water

Directions

    Cream sugar and shortening.

    Add flour, baking powder and salt.

    Add milk and beat until smooth.

    Put in greased 8-inch pan. Top with fruit.

    Sprinkle sugar over top.

    More sugar may be needed if fruit is tart.

    Dot with butter or margarine.

    Pour boiling water over all.

    Bake at 400° for 30 minutes or until brown.
