Ingredients
- 4 c. sifted flour
- 1 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 c. vegetable shortening
- 2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
- 2 eggs
- 2/3 c. sour milk or buttermilk
- 1 c. chopped pecans
- 1 c. candied cherries, cut in quarters
- 2 c. dates, cut up
- 2 (4 oz.) cans (1 c.) candied fruits and peels
- red or green candied cherries for top (optional)
Directions

1Sift flour and measure.

2Sift again with soda and salt. Cream shortening.

3Add sugar and eggs.

4Beat until light and fluffy.

5Add sour milk and flour.

6Add nuts, cherries, dates and candied fruit.

7Chill dough for several hours.

8Drop by teaspoonfuls, about 2-inches apart, on lightly greased baking sheet.

9Top each cookie with half a candied cherry.

10Bake in moderate oven at 375° for 8 to 10 minutes.
