Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. oil
  • 1 c. chopped onions
  • 1 c. sliced celery
  • 2 lb. crumbled ground beef
  • 2 cans undiluted cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 c. uncooked rice
  • 1 can bean sprouts (with liquid; I use a large can of Chinese vegetables)
  • 1 flat can water chestnuts, drained and sliced
  • 4 Tbsp. soy sauce
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 pkg. frozen English peas, thawed enough to separate
  • 1 can chow mein noodles

    Put the oil in a big skillet.

    5 minutes the onions and celery. Add the ground beef. When beef is brown, add the soup, rice, bean sprouts with liquid, water chestnuts, soy sauce, salt and pepper to taste.

    Pour into a big casserole dish and bake it, covered, for 30 minutes at 350°.

    Add the peas.

    Stir them in and top it all with the noodles. Bake it, uncovered, for another 30 minutes at the same temperature.
