  • 1 1/4 c. plain flour
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 3/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. milk
  • 1 egg
  • cooking oil
  • powdered sugar
  • maple syrup (optional)

Directions

    Beat batter ingredients until very smooth.

    Heat oil to 375°. Pour 1/4 cup batter into funnel, holding finger over opening. Swirl batter into hot oil by using a bull's eye circular pattern. Fry until brown, then turn with tongs.

    Fry second side. Drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve with hot maple syrup.
