Gateau De Pain(Bread Pudding)

- 8 slices white bread, with crusts removed
- 1 1/2 c. milk
- 1/4 lb. sweet butter
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 4 egg yolks
- 2 Tbsp. grated orange rind
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 c. seedless raisins
- 4 egg whites
- 1/4 c. sugar
Directions

1Cut crust off the bread.

2Place in a bowl and add milk.

3In another bowl, cream butter until light and fluffy.

4Add sugar and beat until smooth.

5Add yolks, one at a time, beating after each addition.

6Add orange rind, spices, raisins and bread.

7Blend with a wooden spoon.

8Beat the egg whites until soft peaks appear.

9Add the 1/4 cup sugar and beat until stiff.

10Fold into the bread mixture.

11Put into buttered square baking pan and sprinkle generously with sugar and place into pan filled with warm water. Bake in preheated 325° oven for 40 to 50 minutes or until knife comes out clean.

12Serve hot or cold with sauce.
