German Red Cabbage

Ingredients

  • 1 medium cabbage
  • 1/2 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/2 medium apple, chopped
  • 6 cloves
  • 1/2 c. vinegar
  • 1 1/2 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 2 slices bacon, fried and crumbled
  • salt and pepper to taste

Directions

    Fry and crumble bacon; slice or shred cabbage and dice onion and apple.

    Put all in pot and add one cup water.

    Bring to boil and reduce heat to low.

    Simmer until done, about 45 minutes or until tender.

    Remove bay leaves.

    Freeze if you like.

    Serve with Polish sausage.

    Heat sausage with cabbage or alone.
