- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. dark molasses
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. soda
- 2 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1/2 tsp. ginger
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Directions

1Melt shortening and sugar.

2Add molasses and egg.

3(Cool enough to not cook egg.)

4Beat until well mixed.

5Add other ingredients.

6Chill at least 2 hours or overnight.

7Make 1-inch balls.

8Roll in sugar.

9Bake on greased baking sheet for 8 to 10 minutes, until cracks appear on top, at 375°.
