Ingredients

  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. baking soda
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. ginger
  • 4 2/3 c. flour
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder

Directions

    Cream shortening, eggs and sugar.

    Add salt, soda, baking powder, spices, 1/2 of the flour and 1/2 of the molasses.

    Beat well.

    Add remaining ingredients and mix well.

    Roll out on floured board.

    Cut with cookie cutters.

    Bake at 350° for about 12 minutes or until cracks disappear from surface of cookies.

    If moister cookie is desired, bake less time.

    Makes about 40 (2 1/2-inch) cookies.
