  • 1 1/4 c. firmly packed dark brown sugar
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 c. milk plus 1 tsp. vinegar
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. nutmeg

Directions

    Cream together first 5 ingredients. Sift rest of the ingredients together and add alternately to cream mixture.

    Turn into greased and floured 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan. Bake at 350° for 1 hour.
