  • 1 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. dark cane syrup
  • 1 c. cooking oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 c. all purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/8 c. (2 Tbsp.) boiling water
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 2 Tbsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 c. boiling water

Directions

    Mix sugar, syrup, and oil; add eggs. Dissolve soda in boiling water and add to sugar mixture. Combine flour and spices; add to sugar mixture. Add 1 c. boiling water; mix well. Pour into greased and floured pan. Bake at 350° for 45 to 50 minutes. While still hot, sprinkle powdered sugar on top. Cut into squares when cooled.
