Ingredients
- 2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 3/4 to 1 tsp. ginger
- 3/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp. cloves
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 2/3 c. sugar
- 2 medium eggs
- 2/3 c. molasses
- 3/4 c. boiling water
Directions

1Sift together flour, salt, baking powder, soda and spices. Cream together shortening and sugar.

2Beat in eggs, one at a time. Gradually add molasses, beating constantly.

3Blend in flour, using low speed on mixer.

4Add water; mix until smooth.

5Pour into well-greased and floured 9-inch square pan.

6Bake in 350° oven 35 to 45 minutes.

7Serve warm.

8Makes 9 servings.
