- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 c. light molasses
- 1 1/2 c. flour
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 3/4 tsp. soda
- 1/2 tsp. ginger
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 c. boiling water
Directions

1Stir shortening to soften.

2Gradually add sugar, creaming until light and fluffy.

3Add the egg and molasses; beat thoroughly.

4Mix together dry ingredients.

5Add to molasses mixture alternately with the boiling water.

6Beat after each addition.

7Bake in greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan in moderate oven at 350° for about 35 to 40 minutes.

8Serve warm; top with cream (whipped cream, Cool Whip or Dream Whip may be used).
