- 1 cup shortening
- 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ginger
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon clove
- 1/3 cup molasses
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 3 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or 1/2 cup walnuts
Directions

1In a large mixing bowl beat shortening with an electric mixer on medium to high speed. Add brown sugar, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves.

2Beat until well combined.

3Beat in molasses, eggs, and milk until well mixed.

4Beat in as much flour as you can with the mixer.

5Stir in any remaining flour with a wooden spoon.

6Stir in raisins and nuts.

7Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie sheet.

8Bake in a 375° oven for about 8 minutes or until bottoms are lightly browned.

9Remove from pans and cool on wire racks.
