  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c. molasses
  • 3 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. hot water

    Cream together shortening and sugar.

    Add egg; beat well.

    Add molasses.

    Sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and salt.

    Add water; beat until smooth.

    Fill small greased muffin pan 2/3 full.
