  • 1 c. sugar
  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Tbsp. molasses
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda

Directions

    Mix all ingredients and form into balls the size of a hickory nut. Dip in sugar. Place on a nonstick cookie sheet. Bake in moderate oven at 350° for about 12 to 15 minutes. Watch closely because they can burn easily.
