- 3/4 c. shortening
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/4 c. molasses
- 2 c. flour
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 tsp. cloves
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 tsp. soda
- 1/2 tsp. ginger
Directions

1Sift together dry ingredients.

2Cream shortening and sugar thoroughly.

3Add molasses and egg, beating until light and fluffy. Stir in dry ingredients, mixing well.

4Chill 1 hour.

5Shape into 3/4-inch balls; roll in sugar.

6Arrange on ungreased baking sheet. Bake in moderate oven at 350° for 10 to 12 minutes.

7Cookies will crack on top and settle slightly when done.

8Remove to wire rack to cool.
