- 3 1/4 c. shortening
- 1 c. brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1/4 c. molasses
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 2 c. flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. cloves
Directions

1Combine shortening, sugar and egg in a bowl.

2Beat until fluffy, add molasses and beat well.

3Stir dry ingredients together and add to shortening mixture.

4Mix well and chill dough thoroughly.

5Shape into one-inch balls and roll in granulated sugar.

6Place 2 inches apart on a greased baking sheet.

7Bake at 350° for 12 to 15 minutes.

8Yields 4 dozen.
