- 1 cup toor dal (cooked and mashed to form a paste)
- coconut milk (as much as required)
- 1 tablespoon jaggery
- curry leaf
- 1 pinch asafoetida powder
- oil
- garam masala
- cumin seed
- 2 tablespoons tamarind pulp, soaked in water
Directions

1Heat the dal in a pan.

2Add the coconut milk and boil.

3Next add the jaggery and tamarind water.

4Then add garam masala and salt.

5Heat oil in a separate pan.

6Add cumin seeds, curry leaves and asafoetida.

7Fry till cumin seeds begin to splutter.

8Pour this mixture into the boiling dal.

9Cover and cook on low heat.

10Garnish with chopped cilantro.

11Serve hot with rice.
