  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. shortening
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. molasses
  • 1 egg

    Combine flour, soda, spices and salt. Beat shortening for 30 seconds. Add sugar; beat until fluffy. Add molasses and egg. Beat until combined. Add dry ingredients and beat on low speed until well combined. Shape into balls; dip into a small bowl of water, then a bowl of sugar. Put sugar-coated balls 3-inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 350° in oven for 15 minutes. Cool on wire racks. Enjoy.
