- 3 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp. cloves
- 2/3 c. sugar
- 1/4 c. melted shortening
- 2 eggs
- 2/3 c. milk
- oil for frying
Directions

1Mix together and beat until smooth, about 30 seconds.

2Place dough in refrigerator and chill.

3Roll out in a small portion of dough at a time on a lightly floured board to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut out doughnuts and let stand on board for 20 minutes before frying.

4Fry a few doughnuts at a time in 370° fat for 3 to 5 minutes.

5Makes 2 dozen small doughnuts.
