- 2 cups brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon clove
- 1 cup raisins
- 1 cup nuts, chopped
- granulated sugar
Directions

1Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

2In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.

3In a large bowl, cream butter and shortening with brown sugar.

4Add eggs; mix well.

5Add dry ingredients alternating with buttermilk; mix well.

6Stir in raisins and nuts.

7Drop by teaspoonfuls onto baking sheet.

8Sprinkle with granulated sugar.

9Bake for 15 minutes or until golden in color.
