Ingredients
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 5 c. flour (all-purpose)
- 5 tsp. baking powder
- 1 c. shortening
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 c. buttermilk, at room temperature
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water.

2Sift dry ingredients into a large bowl.

3Cut in shortening.

4Add buttermilk, then yeast mixture.

5Stir until thoroughly moistened.

6Turn out onto floured board and knead a minute or two.

7Roll out to 1/4-inch thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter.

8Place on greased baking sheet. Let rise for 30 minutes.

9Bake at 425° for 15 minutes or until brown.

10Brush tops with melted butter.

11Yield:

1260 (2-inch) biscuits.
