Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. dry Italian salad dressing mix
  • 1/4 tsp. soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 lb. stewing beef, cut in pieces
  • flour
  • 4 Tbsp. salad oil
  • 4 carrots, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 medium onion, peeled and quartered
  • 1/2 lb. mushrooms, cleaned and trimmed
  • water
  • salt and pepper to taste

Directions

    Mix salad dressing according to package directions.

    Combine 1/4 cup of the salad dressing with the soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce.

    Marinate beef in the sauce for 3 hours.

    Coat beef lightly with flour and brown in heated salad oil in heavy skillet. Transfer meat to a Dutch oven and top with carrots, onion and mushrooms.

    Add enough water to just cover the meat and vegetables. Cover Dutch oven and bake in preheated 300° oven for 3 hours or until beef is tender.

    Salt and pepper to taste.

    May serve with hot cooked rice or noodles if you wish.
