- 1 lb. lean ground beef
- 1 (28 oz.) can tomatoes, cut up
- 2 medium carrots, peeled and sliced
- 2 stalks celery, chopped
- 1/3 c. barley
- 1/4 c. catsup
- 2 beef bouillon cubes
- 1 tsp. dried basil
- 1 bay leaf
Directions

1In large pot cook ground beef until browned.

2Drain off fat. Stir in remaining ingredients and 5 cups water.

3Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 1 hour.

4Season to taste with salt and pepper.

5Remove bay leaf.
