  • 2 lb. hamburger (lean)
  • 32 oz. tomato juice
  • 2 c. chopped onion
  • 2 c. chopped celery
  • 1 c. pearl barley
  • 1/2 c. catsup
  • 2 beef bouillon cubes
  • 4 tsp. season salt (Lawry's)
  • 2 tsp. basil
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp. pepper
  • 5 to 6 c. water

    Brown burger; drain.

    In a large pot or crock-pot, put burger and remaining ingredients.

    Simmer 1 hour.

    Remove bay leaves before serving.
