- 2 medium apples, preferably on the tart side
- 12 cup dark brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon (or more)
- 1 cup self-rising flour

- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk (or 2 percent milk)
- 1 tablespoon butter

3Peel, core, and slice the apples into crescent-shaped pieces about a quarter-inch thick.
