- 2 1/2 c. small raisins
- 2 1/2 c. pitted dates, cut up
- 2 c. large Muscat raisins
- 2 c. currants
- 2 small jars candied pineapple
- 2 small jars candied cherries
- 2 c. walnuts or pecans
- 3 c. white sugar
- 3 c. boiling water
- 8 Tbsp. shortening
- 4 c. plain flour
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 3 tsp. cinnamon
- 2 tsp. ground cloves
- 2 tsp. salt
- 2 eggs
Directions

1Put raisins, dates, fruits, sugar, water and shortening in a large pot; bring to a boil, then simmer for 20 minutes.

2Cool. Sift flour once before measuring.

3Combine flour, soda, cinnamon, cloves and salt and sift together.

4Stir into cool mixture, adding eggs and nuts last.

5Pour into very well-greased and floured pan. Bake 1 1/2 hours at 325°.
