  • 3 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. soft butter or margarine
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 c. chopped nuts
  • 2 c. candied cherries, cut in halves
  • 2 c. cut up pitted dates
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

    Sift

    together flour, salt

    and soda; set aside.

    Put butter in large bowl.

    Add buttermilk and vanilla.

    Add flour mixture; mix well.

    Stir in nuts and fruit. Drop by teaspoons on a lightly greased cookie sheet.

    Bake in a moderate (350°) oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned.
