- 1 cup vegetable shortening soft
- 1 cup sugar granulated
- 1 cup brown sugar firmly packed
- 2 large eggs
- 2 1/2 cups flour, all-purpose
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup raisins, seedless
- 1/2 cup candied fruit diced
- 1/2 cup walnuts chopped
- 1 1/2 cups rolled oats uncooked
Directions

1Beat shortening and sugars together until creamy.

2Blend in eggs.

3Sift together flour, soda, salt and spices.

4Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk.

5Stir in fruits, walnuts, and oats.

6Drop by teaspoonfuls onto lightly greased cookie sheets.

7Bake in moderate oven at 350F (180C).
