  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 1 1/2 c. warm water
  • 6 to 6 1/2 c. all-purpose flour, divided
  • 1/3 c. softened shortening
  • 1 Tbsp. salt

    In a 4-quart mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in 1/2 cup warm water.

    Let mixture stand for 5 minutes, then add 1 1/2 cups warm water and 3 cups all-purpose flour.
