- 1 1/2 c. warm water
- 6 to 6 1/2 c. all-purpose flour, divided
- 1/3 c. softened shortening
- 1 Tbsp. salt
Directions

1In a 4-quart mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in 1/2 cup warm water.

2Let mixture stand for 5 minutes, then add 1 1/2 cups warm water and 3 cups all-purpose flour.

3Beat until smooth, about 100 strokes.
