Ingredients
- 1 pkg. yeast
- 1/4 c. lukewarm water
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 c. milk, scalded
- 6 c. flour
Directions

1Add yeast to lukewarm water and add 1 teaspoon sugar.

2Let stand 5 minutes.

3Add salt, shortening and remaining sugar to milk and cool to lukewarm.

4Add yeast and 3 cups flour.

5Beat well. Add enough more flour to make thick dough.

6Cover bowl and let rise about double in bulk.

7Shape into loaves or rolls and place in oven.

8Cover and let rise until double in bulk.

9Bake in hot oven (400°) for 10 minutes.

10Reduce heat to 375° and bake 35 to 40 minutes or until done.
