Hot Water Cornbread

Ingredients

  • 2 c. white cornmeal
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. shortening
  • 1/4 c. half and half (canned milk will do; I use Milnot)
  • 1 1/2 to 2 c. boiling water

Directions

    Mix cornmeal, salt and sugar.

    Add and cut in shortening.

    Add half and half.

    Add boiling water.

    Fry in hot skillet with at least 1/2-inch of shortening or oil.

    I drop from teaspoon; it turns out so good!
