  • 4 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • pinch of salt (1/2 tsp.)
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 1/4 c. buttermilk
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 Tbsp. caraway seed (optional)
  • 1/4 c. oil

    s. While kneading, gradually add 1 1/4 cups buttermilk.

    Knead well.

    Grease and flour frying pan or cookie sheet.

    Place batter in frying pan and shape into mound.

    Spread buttermilk on top and add a little sugar.

    Snip a cross on top with scissors.

    Bake at 400° for first 10 minutes and at 350° for 30 more minutes.
