- 4 1/2 c. plain flour
- 1 Tbsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. soda
- 2 eggs
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 6 Tbsp. margarine
- 1 1/2 c. buttermilk
Directions

1In cup and with fork, beat eggs slightly; reserve 1 tablespoon.

2Stir milk and remaining egg into flour mixture just until flour is moistened.

3Turn dough out onto well-floured surface.

4With floured hands, knead about 10 strokes to mix thoroughly.

5Shape into ball; place in casserole.

6In center of ball with sharp knife, cut a 4-inch cross 1/4-inch deep.

7Brush with reserved egg.

8Bake 1 hour and 10 minutes.

9Cool in casserole on wire rack 10 minutes.
