- 1 pkg. yeast
- 2 1/3 c. plus 1 tsp. water
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 2 c. flour
- 1 egg
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in 2/3 cup warm water; add salt, sugar and shortening.

2Beat in 1 cup flour until smooth.

3Knead in remaining flour for 5 minutes.

4Shape into 20 (6-inch) pencil lengths.

5Place on greased baking sheet.

6Beat egg and remaining water together.

7Brush on sticks.

8Let rise for 1 hour.

9Bake for 20 minutes at 370°.
