Ingredients

  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 c. melted shortening (don't use oil)
  • 4 c. plain sifted flour
  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 2 c. buttermilk

Directions

    Mix all dry ingredients well.

    Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup lukewarm water.

    Add shortening, yeast and buttermilk to dry mix and knead well.

    Flour as needed to roll out.

    Roll out, cut and place biscuits in a greased pan.

    Bake in a 425° preheated oven until brown (12 to 15 minutes).

    Mix makes about 24 large biscuits.
