- 2 eggs
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1/2 c. butter
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 c. sweet milk
- 3/4 c. corn meal
- 2 c. flour
- 2/3 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
- 1/3 c. molasses
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp. ground ginger
- 1/8 tsp. ground cloves
- 6 Tbsp. butter
- 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 4 c.flour, sifted
- salt
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1 c. confectioners sugar glaze
Directions

1In a heavy-based pan over low heat, dissolve the sugar with the molasses, spices and butter.

2Slowly and carefully bring the mixture to a boil.

3Cool it to room temperature, then mix in the baking powder.

4Place the flour in a bowl with a pinch of salt and make a well in the center.

5Pour in the cooled syrup mixture and the egg and stir from the center to incorporate the flour.

6Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead, then wrap it in wax paper and refrigrate it for about 30 minutes.
