  • 5 to 6 slices top round
  • 1/2 lb. lean bacon
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 beef bouillon cube
  • prepared mustard
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • Knorr all-purpose seasoning for flavor

Directions

    Dice bacon and fry until almost crisp.

    Add finely chopped onion and continue frying until onion is transparent.

    Drain fried onion and bacon thoroughly and set aside.

    Lay slices of the top round on flat surface.

    Sprinkle salt and pepper on both sides. Spread slices of meat with a little mustard.

    Spread about 1 tablespoon of bacon-onion mixture over beef rolls.

    Roll meat up in jelly roll like fashion and fasten with toothpicks.

    Brown rouladen in hot fat on all sides.

    Add about 1 1/2 tablespoons of flour and add approximately 2 to 3 cups of water for gravy.

    Simmer for at least 1 hour.

    Season to taste with salt, pepper, bouillon cube and Knorr all-purpose seasoning.

    Serve with homemade spatzle (homemade noodles), rice or mashed potatoes.
