  • 12 oz. onion, finely chopped
  • 5 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1/2 c. oil
  • 5 lb. ground beef
  • 3 qt. tomato sauce
  • 1 qt. tomato paste
  • 1 tsp. basil, crumbled
  • 1 Tbsp. oregano, crumbled
  • 2 lb. 8 oz. noodles (lasagna)
  • 2 gal. water
  • 2 Tbsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. oil
  • 2 lb. 8 oz. Swiss or Mozzarella cheese, grated
  • 1 1/2 c. Parmesan cheese (dry or drained)
  • 2 lb. 8 oz. cottage cheese (dry or drained)

Directions

    Cook onion and garlic in oil.

    Add ground beef; cook slowly. Add tomato sauce, tomato paste and spices; continue cooking for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

    Cook noodles and drain. Arrange in pans: layer of overlapping noodles, layer of meat sauce, Swiss or Mozzarella cheese, cottage cheese and Parmesan cheese.

    Repeat noodles, meat, cheese and noodles; spoon remainder of meat sauce on top.

    Bake at 350° for 40 to 45 minutes.
