- 1 1/2 tablespoons butter or margarine
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 8 ounces dried red lentils
- 3 cups chicken broth
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- Hot cooked rice
Directions

1Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat; add onion, garlic, and ginger. Saute until golden. Stir in turmeric and lentils; cook, stirring occasionally, 1 to 2 minutes.

2Stir in broth, and bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 15 minutes. Stir in salt and garam masala; cover and simmer, stirring occasionally, 15 minutes or until lentils are tender and mixture is thickened. Serve with hot cooked rice.
