Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/4 c. powdered milk
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1 c. margarine
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 unbeaten egg
  • 1 Tbsp. anise seed
  • 1/2 c. chopped nuts

Directions

    Sift together flour, soda, dry milk, salt, cinnamon and cloves. Cream margarine (or shortening) and sugars.

    Add egg.

    Blend in dry ingredients and add anise seed and nuts.

    Shape into two rolls; wrap in waxed paper and refrigerate at least 4 hours; overnight is fine.

    Slice and bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 375° for 9 to 12 minutes.
