Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. dry yeast
  • 1/2 c. warm water
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • approximately 6 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • approximately 2 c. lukewarm water

Directions

    Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water; set aside.

    Cream shortening and sugar; add egg and beat well.

    Stir in 2 cups flour to which salt has been added.

    Add 2 cups lukewarm water and 4 1/2 cups flour to make a soft dough.

    Flour board and knead thoroughly.

    Set aside to rise or put in refrigerator until needed.

    Remove from refrigerator and knead again.

    Roll and cut like biscuits.

    Let rise for 4 to 5 hours.

    Bake in a preheated 375° oven for 15 to 20 minutes.
