- 1 c. sugar
- 3 Tbsp. cocoa
- 5 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
Directions

1Sift together 1/2 cup sugar, flour, cocoa and salt.

2Beat egg whites and cream of tartar until stiff, but not dry.

3Gradually add 1/2 cup sugar, beating constantly.

4Set aside.

5Beat egg yolks until thick and lemon colored.

6Add vanilla and fold in dry ingredients.

7Then fold in egg whites.
-
8Spread evenly in a greased and floured pan (15 1/2 x 10 x 1-inch).

9Bake in preheated oven at 325° for about 25 minutes.

10Roll up in towel sprinkled with powdered sugar.

11When cool, unroll and spread with filling (whipped cream or ice cream).

12Roll and spread with chocolate icing or dust with powdered sugar.

13Refrigerate.
