  • 2 packages yeast
  • 3/4 cup milk scalded
  • 1 cup flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 3 1/2 cups flour

    Soak yeast in warm water for 5 minutes.

    Pour scalded and cooled milk over 1/4 cup sugar and a pinch of salt.

    Add 1 cup flour and beat until smooth.

    Beat in shortening and eggs.

    Add 3 1/2 cups flour and mix to a soft dough.

    Turn out on lightly floured board.
