Ingredients

  • 6 c. flour
  • 3/4 c. sugar
  • 1/4 c. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 8 oz. margarine or butter (2 sticks)
  • 2 c. very cold milk

Directions

    Preheat oven to 425°.

    Combine the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a bowl.

    With a pastry blender or two knives, cut in margarine until the mixture is the consistency of cornmeal and peas.

    Add the milk and bring the dough together by stirring gently with a flat-edged spoon.

    If the mixture is too wet, add more flour.

    If it won't come together, add more milk.

    Place the dough on a well-floured surface and knead only 13 to 15 times. Roll out the dough to 1-inch thickness (1 thumb knuckle).

    Using a biscuit cutter, cut out biscuits.

    Bake 15 minutes.
