Ingredients

  • 4 c. sifted flour
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. lard
  • 3/4 c. cold water (ice water best)

Directions

    Stir dry ingredients, cut in lard until mixture looks like cornmeal, add water, making up small portions at a time.

    Knead mixture well, then place on biscuit board and hammer 1/2 hour. Turn dough during beating, cover with damp cloth and make out biscuits.

    Bake in hot oven at 450° to 475° for 17 to 20 minutes.
