Meat Cabbage Casserole

  • 2 lb. shredded cabbage
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 Tbsp. soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 lb. meat loaf mixture or ground beef
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. flour
  • 1 egg
  • pepper to taste
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 c. milk

Directions

    Melt 3 tablespoons of butter or margarine in a large Dutch oven.

    Add cabbage.

    Cook, stirring, until wilted.

    Add the soy sauce.

    Cover and cook for 15 minutes.

    Add the 1/2 teaspoon salt and sugar.

    Mix together by hand the meat loaf mixture or ground beef, 1 teaspoon salt, the flour, egg, pepper, chopped onion and milk.

    In a 2-quart baking dish, alternate layers of cabbage, meat, cabbage, meat and ending with cabbage.

    Dot with butter. Bake at 350° for 1 hour, uncovered.
